About Smolikas Dragon Lake 

A dreamy lake in alpine landscape surrounded by verdant grassland of violas, orchids and lilies at the lakeside. Always peaceful, Drakolimni is inhabited by alpine tritons,  which is as if they have just jumped out of fairy tales with dragons! 

Smolikas Dragon Lake, known also as Lyga, is situated at an altitude of 2160m., at the east side of Mt Smolikas summit. Its surface area is around 3 – 4 acres and its perimeter is around 380 human steps. What makes it special is its unique heart shape! 

Mt Smolikas is the second highest mountain in Greece after Mountain Olympos and occupies the northern part of “Ioannina” and the western part of “Grevena”. Its highest summit is “Geros” at 2637m., while worth mentioning is that at an altitude above 2000m. it has 14 peaks, and over 1000m. 48!
