About Plastiras Lake 

Plastiras Lake is 25 km away from Karditsa and 250 km from Thessaloniki, at an altitude of 800 meters, surrounded by the verdant slopes of the Agrafa mountain range! 

It is an artificial lake that spreads over the plateau of Nevropolis, named after the deer abundance that once lived in the area (“nevros” is the deer neonate). 

In 1928 the great general and politician “Nikolaos Plastiras” envisioned the construction of a dam that would solve the problem of irrigation of the Thessalian plain, the water supply of Karditsa and other communities, as well as the production of electricity by using the power of water. The idea matured in the 1950s, while the construction of the dam at the “Kakavakia” point was finally completed in 1960.
